Description
After visiting Morocco in 1912 and 1913 Henri Matisse adopted a bolder and more simplified style and utilised the colour black in his artworks. This can be seen in ‘Nude with Palms’ as the female form has been drawn with a strong dark outline. Matisse was also inspired by the decorative and vibrant interiors of North African architecture and often situated his female nudes within a highly ornate room surrounded by exotic plants.
