\\u003cem\\u003eUrtica Dioica (Great Nettle)\\u003c/em\\u003e, Bradbury and Evans, London, 1854\\u003cbr\\u003e\\u003cbr\\u003eHenry Bradbury (1829–60) issued his first efforts in nature printing as a volume of 21 plates titled \\u003cem\\u003eA few leaves from the newly-invented process of ‘Nature Printing’\\u003c/em\\u003e, published by Bradbury and Evans in 1854. The innovative technique, which Bradbury had studied under Alois Auer (1813–69) in Vienna, was patented in Britain by Henry’s father William and like photography and other mid-19th century image technologies, it aimed for a more direct capturing of the natural world. The process consisted in placing an herbarium specimen between two sheets of metal to create an impression in the softer surface, which was then treated to create the printing plate.\\u0026nbsp;\\u003cbr\\u003e\\u003cbr\\u003e\\u003cbr\\u003e
